Luminarias (click here to learn the history of Luminarias)

bronners_1654_24479714Since 1962, Troop 42 has been selling, assembling and delivering luminarias during the holiday season to households in Novato to raise funds for our activities.  Proceeds from the sales go directly to our Troop and ensure that we can continue our Scouting programs and traditions. Our Scouts traveled to Scotland and then hosted a group of Scottish Scouts during the summers of 1997 and 2002.  This cultural exchange included a backpacking adventure in the Sierras and Yosemite, home hosting, Fourth of July Parade, and a tour of the many sights and activities throughout Marin County and San Francisco Bay Area. These funds also helped to pay for our High Adventure trips to Boundary Waters in Minnesota, Scotland, Japan and Switzerland.  These trips provide a cultural and social experience to be remembered for a lifetime.

We also perform many community service projects.  Our Scouts have participated in Eagle Scout Service Projects that have benefited the residents of Marin and Novato.  These projects include improving our local hiking trails, tree planting, construction of benches, graffiti removal, and cleaning debris from our creeks, etc.  These projects have been performed at Miwok Park, Novato Creek, San Marin and Novato High Schools, Rancho School, O’Hair Park, Stafford Lake Park, Dogbone Meadow, Samuel P. Taylor Park, Red Cross Disaster Center and other locations. These Community Service Projects performed by our Scouts help to make the community of Novato a better place to live.  The sales and production of the luminarias involves all Troop 42 scout families.

Notes for our customers:

To protect them from weather, your luminarias will be delivered directly to your door.  You should set them out on the curb Christmas Eve and light them at 6 p.m.

Your assistance in setting out and lighting the luminarias of your neighbors, who aren’t home but who have ordered luminarias would be appreciated.  In the event the weather is too inclement to permit setting out the luminarias on Christmas Eve, we suggest that you set them out at 6 p.m. on Christmas night.  The Boy Scouts WILL NOT be able to clean up the used luminarias; therefore, clean up is the responsibility of each homeowner.
